Classic sized Cattle: Herefored, Lowline, & Jersey genetics
Growing up with 1,800 - 2,000# bulls, our cattle seem "miniature" in comparison. However, classification for Classic Sized vs Miniatures are as follows:
Cows at 1 year of age: 45"
Bulls at 1 year of age: 48"
Anything smaller than this at 1 year of age is considered "Miniature"
Our goal = max amount of meat with minimal input. "Miniatures" cannot meet our demands.
Zippy (2011)--an unregistered lowline. Easy keeper, kept good flesh in drought while raising a decent bull calf on grass alone.
Rita (5/12)-- lowline/jersey cross. First time freshening she gives 2 gal/day WITH calf sharing. Lots of cream and grows a great looking calf on grass and minimal grain at milking. She's gentle and a real sweetheart.
Patch (5/14)--black baldy (Zippy x Bully)
Patch#2 (3/15)-- black baldy (Zippy x Bully) currently bred
Sassy (Rita x Bully): Born 5/15
Sweet Pea (Rita x Bully): Born 8/16
Red (Patch #1 x Jersey) Born 5/16. Future Home Milker
Bully (2011)-- Beefy Classic sized Hereford. He is an easy keeper and very meaty. Kept good muscling in bad drought on grass alone.
